How To Winterize Your Rain Barrels!

A reminder to all our friends in the northern states that you might want to winterize your rain barrels! Here are the steps to get your rain barrel ready for winter:

1. Drain your rain barrel completely. You can use the remaining water to tend to your indoor plants!
2. Remove any debris from the the top of the barrel, inside the strainer basket or in the downspout.
3. Remove the drainage and overflow hoses. You can store them in a safe and protected area like your garage or basement.
4. Open the spigot at the bottom of the barrel and leave it open until spring. This allows any water collected to go straight into the ground.
